Boys JV Football: Dripping Springs vs. Westlake

Oct 16, 2019 – Wednesday’s game featuring Dripping Springs at home against Westlake was a low scoring, defensive struggle between 2 fairly evenly matched teams.

The scoreless first half saw lot’s of action, but neither team was able to move the ball effectively against the opposing defense.

Late in the game, with about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Dripping Springs caught a break and was able to complete a pass for a touchdown. In the last few minutes of the game, Westlake threatened to score, but the Dripping Springs defense held, and they went on to win 7-0.

Here’s a few shots of the action, on a beautiful night for football in Dripping Springs.

Boys JV Football: Dripping Springs vs. Lake Travis

Last night, Dripping Springs hosted Lake Travis in boys JV football. It was a defensive struggle. The score was tied at 13-13 with less than a minute left to play, when Lake Travis got the ball back and got a tremendous break to get within field goal range. With the seconds ticking down, Lake Travis made a field goal to go up 16-13 and go on to win the game.

I thought both teams played very well defensively, but both offenses were a bit inconsistent. All in all, it was a very good, and a very close game.

Here are some photo highlights of the game.

UT vs Boston College Ice Hockey

Well, last night, although Texas didn’t get even in the 2 game series, they did play a fast, hard-hitting game. I think they played well, and even though they faced a more experienced opponent in Boston College, they didn’t give up, they seemed to have fun and played a good clean game. One of the BC players hit the boards hard in the last couple minutes of play, and was slow to get up. I (as I’m sure everyone does) hope he’s ok and hope Boston College has a safe and uneventful trip back to Boston – since this weekend’s snow storm is scheduled to hit Boston today.

It’s all a blur to me now, but as far as I can remember, the final score was 10-3 BC.

UT vs Boston College Ice Hockey

It was great to have Boston College in Austin! The score at first intermission was 2-2. At the second it was 6-3 Boston College. It was a good game, with plenty of action and scoring. Both teams played hard and fast last night. The final score was 9-5 BC. Tonight UT will have a chance to get even. The game starts at 7:40pm at Chaparral Ice in Austin.

Boys Varsity Soccer: Temple vs Hutto

Yesterday’s non-conference game between the Temple Wildcats and the Hutto Hippos ended in a 2-2 tie as both teams played with a lot of energy and displayed the kind of fast paced action I look forward to seeing more of. Here are some photos of yesterday’s action at the Dripping Springs Invitational Tournament at Dripping Springs Tiger Stadium.

UT vs. Texas State Ice Hockey

Last night I attended the Texas State hockey game against The University of Texas. Being a northerner all my life (until the last few years) I’ve seen my fair share of hockey. Last night’s game was a great game! I was impressed with the skill of these players – and I could see in them a love for the game of hockey.

The score was 2-1 UT at the first intermission, and UT ended up winning 5-3, but the final score isn’t a good representation of how tight this game was. Texas State had several players out with injuries, but regardless of circumstances, both teams played with heart and drive, and a never give up attitude. They played good hockey last night, and Texas State had great fan support!

I’ve been a little “hockey starved” since moving to Texas, and I truly enjoyed this game!

This is good hockey, deep in the heart of Texas!

Bailey Kay Hutson Exceptional Rodeo and Bull Ride – 2018

Yesterday I attended the bull riding event at the Ranch Park in Dripping Springs. It was a great event, one that I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys rodeos and western riding. The cowboys, riders and other performers were amazing to watch. These events are unique because the skills used are skills learned from their work – from the things they do in their day to day jobs. This is real, and these men, women and animals are an integral part of what makes America the great place that it is. I hope this never goes away – and, thankfully, as long as we still want to eat, ranches and cowboys will probably always be a part of our lives – thank you, God!

To me, this event wasn’t about who won or lost, or who rode best, or any of that. It was about the experience of being among the animals and cowboys. The Ranch Park was alive yesterday – alive with the excitement of bull riding!

I can’t wait for next year’s event!

Varsity Girls Basketball: Boerne-Champion at Dripping Springs

This game was very close for most of the first half. However, the Dripping Springs defense held Champion to only 8 points in the 3rd quarter, and they outscored Champion 34 to 19 in the second half to go on to win 54-42.

Varsity Boys Baseball: Akins vs. Bowie

Bowie defeated Akins last night by a score of 3-2; it was a very close and exciting game. Some of the highlights included base stealing, pick offs, and a late inning rally to bring Bowie back from being down 2-0 to win the game.
